Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
This policy explains what The Briefed collects when you use thebriefed.co, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. It applies to the website, the resume builder and our email updates.
The Briefed is free for job seekers. We never charge candidates, never ask for payment details, and never sell your personal information to anyone.
1. Who we are
The Briefed ("we", "us") runs a job board and career publication. We list remote jobs from companies around the world, and onsite jobs in the countries we cover. For any privacy question, reach us through our contact page.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address and a hashed password when you create an account. We never store your password in readable form.
- Google sign-in — if you choose "Continue with Google", Google sends us your name, email address and whether that email is verified. We do not receive your Google password, and we request no access to your Gmail, Drive or contacts.
- Resume content — everything you enter in the resume builder: contact details, work history, education, skills, and an optional profile photo.
- Your profile (optional) — if you build a profile: a headline, summary, city and country, work history, education, skills, languages, certificates, links and your job preferences. It never includes your email address or phone number. Profiles are public: anyone can open yours, and it appears in the People directory once it has a headline. You choose which sections to keep off the page.
- Articles you submit (optional) — the text, cover image and tags of any article you send us for review, and your name and profile photo, which appear on it if it is published.
- Email subscriptions — your address when you join The Weekly Brief, set a job alert, or join a waitlist.
- Messages — anything you send us through the contact form.
Information collected automatically
- Saved and visited jobs — when you save a role, or click through to an employer's site, we record that against your account so you can find it again.
- Your visits while signed in — when you sign in, how long a visit lasts and whether it is on a phone or a computer, so we can see whether members come back and improve the site for them. We do not store your IP address for this, and these records are deleted after about 13 months.
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, device type and pages viewed, used for security and to understand which content is useful.
3. Why we use it
- To create and secure your account, and keep you signed in.
- To build, save and export your resume as a PDF.
- To show your saved roles, visited roles and job alerts.
- To show your profile to the people you chose, and to let employers find and message you if you allow it.
- To review, publish and credit the articles you submit.
- To send the email updates you asked for — and only those.
- To measure which roles and articles are useful, so we can curate better.
- To detect abuse, spam and fraudulent listings.
4. Applying to jobs
Applications do not happen on The Briefed. Every role links out to the employer's own careers page or job board. When you click "Apply", we record that you visited the listing so it appears in your account — but we do not send your resume, your profile or any personal information to that employer. Once you leave our site, the employer's own privacy policy applies, not ours.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
- Service providers that run the product for us — hosting, database, email delivery, and Google Analytics for traffic measurement. Images you upload are stored on our own servers. They may only process data on our instructions.
- Other members and the public — only what you choose. A profile is shown to nobody until you set it to signed-in members or to anyone. A published article shows your name and photo as its author. When an employer messages you through your profile, we email you their message together with their name and email address. We never show your email address or phone number to them first.
- Google, for sign-in and (once live) advertising, as described above.
- Authorities, where we are legally required to do so.
7. How long we keep it
- Account and resume data — until you delete it or ask us to close your account.
- Your profile — until you delete it or close your account. Deleting your account removes it, and a blocked account's profile is hidden.
- Published articles — until you unpublish or delete them, or we remove them under our Terms. Your name stays on a published article while it is live.
- Newsletter subscription — until you unsubscribe.
- Technical logs — a limited period, for security and troubleshooting.
When an account is closed we remove it from active use. Some records may persist in backups for a short period before being overwritten.
8. Your choices
- Access and correction — view and edit your details and resumes at any time while signed in.
- Deletion — delete individual resumes yourself, or contact us to close your account entirely.
- Who sees your profile — your profile is public, including to search engines, once it has a headline; you can hide whole sections, turn off employer search, and contact us to have your profile removed.
- Unsubscribe — every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can turn job alerts off in your account.
- Withdraw Google access — revoke our access from your Google account permissions page at any time.
9. Security
Passwords are stored hashed, traffic is served over HTTPS, and access to production data is restricted. No online service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable measures and will tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.
10. Children
The Briefed is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will tell subscribers by email.
12. Contact
Questions, corrections or deletion requests: use our contact page. See also our Terms & Conditions.
